NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Helped by industry-wide demand for lightweight shoes and footwear in bright hues from coral to turquoise, Famous Footwear’s parent Brown Shoe Co. and athletic-gear retailer Foot Locker Inc. both surged Friday after reporting better-than-expected first-quarter results.
Brown Shoe (US:BWS) shares surged 25% to $ 10.99, their biggest gain since Dec. 2008. Foot Locker Inc. (US:FL) was up 8.3% to $ 30.33. That sent Foot Locker’s smaller rival Finish Line Inc. (US:FINL) up 5%.
